The Vimeo video hosting site launched on Tuesday a version of its player that detects the user’s hardware and makes the streaming of video in Flash or HTML5, depending on the device you are viewing the video. In addition, the new player also makes streaming automatically quality defined from the connection quality.
The main objective of the new feature is compatibility with mobile devices such as those running iOS or Android. For the user, it still works the same way. Even the code to integrate the player to another page (embedding) remains the same.
In addition to the new player the Vimeo also released a new feature called Watch Later (“Watch Later” in free translation). With it users can tag videos to watch later. So different from the “Like” button (which share the videos you like with other users), videos from Watch Later are kept in a private playlist.
