Dutch National Time Trial Championships

On Wednesday, June 22, 2011, the Dutch CHAMPIONSHIPS time trial for men and women held in the Veendam.

Favorites

The big favourites for the men’s competition, defending champion Jos van Emden, two times champion Stef Clement and Lieuwe Westra “Beast”. Other contenders include Maarten Tjallingii, Niki Terpstra, Joost Posthuma and Rick flange.

Kai Reus

The most notable competitor is undoubtedly Kai Reus. He was once one of the largest cycling talent in the Netherlands. In 2003, he became junior world champion.That year he won the Coupe du Monde. In 2006, he won the pledges include Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Dutch titles on the road and in the trial time.
On July 12, 2007, he was a terrible fall during a training ride in the Alps. In a French hospital, he was held for 11 days in an artificial coma. Only in september 2008, he could make his comeback as a cyclist.
In 2009 he still could again reach a high level in the Tour of Britain, he won a stage and wore the leader’s Jersey for several days. Then, he was hit by a number of setbacks, including glandular fever.In september 2010 the Reus, he had enough time for cycling. He switched to Marathon skating.
Reus did recently known, however, that in the national trial championship time in Veendam again would make his comeback as a cyclist. Based on their past successes, the National Federation gave him a starting point. Former champion junior world will drive for Team De Rijke.

Trail

Originally it was thought that the course of national time trial Championships not only Veendam but also would go through the Noginsk. Because the middle way between these sites cannot be closed completely, the Organization decided to change course, which unlike 2010, goes this year do not go through the Noginsk.
The start is at the church square in Veendam. The Finnish are on Museumplein.
In Sorghvliethal is permanent.
The course consists of a round 23.2 km.

The men’s trial begins at 03:30.

History

Up to 1995 was the time trial at the national championships for men only amateurs to participate. Since then, both professionals and amateurs are welcome.
The most successful riders in the history of the national time trial championship is without doubt Leontien van Moorssel. She won the title six times.
In men was Erik Dekker, Bart Voskamp and Stef Clement, the most successful. They were three-times champion.
